What We Do

At Oak Tree Montessori, we provide a rich, child-led learning environment that follows the Montessori philosophy, nurturing independence, curiosity, and a deep love of learning. Our approach integrates hands-on experiences, individualised learning plans, and a strong sense of community.

Please note that parents must take full responsibility and remain legally responsible for their child’s education.

Our Daily Rhythm

Our days flow in a carefully structured yet flexible rhythm that supports focus, autonomy, and collaboration:

  • 09:30 – 11:30 | Morning Work Cycle The day begins with a morning meeting, setting intentions and goals. Children then may engage in uninterrupted work, choosing from Montessori materials across subjects such as mathematics, language, science, geography, and the arts. There is also an opportunity to attend a tutor-led session, often centred around the Montessori "Great Lessons"—a series of stories designed to spark curiosity and inspire deeper exploration.
  • 11:40 – 12:00 | Outdoor Exploration Nature is an extension of our classroom. We engage in free play, movement, and nature study in the adjacent park and woodland.
  • 12:00 – 12:30 | Lunch & Tidy-Up We eat together, fostering a sense of community. Children take responsibility for their environment, contributing to communal care and practising independence. Additionally, a snack table is available throughout the day, providing opportunities to eat and drink as needed.
  • 12:30 – 13:00 | Outdoor Exploration After lunch, we spend additional time outside, recognising that time outdoors supports emotional regulation, helping children release energy and reconnect with nature, enabling them to return to the classroom feeling more focused, calm, and ready to engage in their work cycle.
  • 13:00 – 14:30 | Afternoon Work Cycle A second period of focused, self-directed work where children continue their learning projects, meet with tutors or collaborate on group activities.
  • 13:00 – 14:30 | Forest School - (Wednesday Afternoon Only) We walk to the nearby Keeds Wood to study in the natural environment. Activities include handwork, den building, nature art, bush craft, unstructured play, and connection to nature.
  • 14:30 – 15:00 | Closing Circle & Tidy-Up We end the day with a reflective group gathering, sharing discoveries, celebrating achievements, and preparing for the next day.

SEND and Inclusion

We offer an inclusive setting, with small group numbers and higher adult-child ratios to help provide a calm environment where children are able to establish strong relationships with their peers and tutors. We work closely with parents and carers to discuss how we might accommodate each individual child’s learning needs, including SEND needs and recommend that parents/carers discuss additional needs with us in advance. We have numerous policies in place to ensure children are safe and have an excellent experience with us.

Send us an email to arrange a visit, see our space, try an activity, meet our tutors and get a sense of our setting.
